What’s the word?
Liverpool have struggled all season, finding themselves out of both domestic cups, and are now 10th in the Premier League.
Blame has mostly been placed at the owners for a lack of investment, the squad for their poor performances and now Klopp himself for the severe drop-off in quality from last year, when they nearly won a quadruple.
Speaking to Football FanCast, O’R0urke claimed that whilst the current form is something of a surprise, Klopp may be determined to stay and fix the mess.
“I think it’s just been a massive shock for everybody to see how quickly Liverpool’s fortunes have taken a downturn and how badly they’ve struggled in the Premier League this season,” he stated.
“Jurgen Klopp, I’m sure, will be surprised himself by how things have fared so far this season as well, but it does seem that he does want to stick around and try to get things back on track next season.”
Big rebuild needed
If Klopp stays, he has a huge job on his hands given how badly Liverpool’s squad needs a rebuild.
Neglect in previous windows means that at least two new midfielders are necessary, as the current options are either ageing or out of contract, and major investment is needed in this area.
Although he built a side which ended up winning every trophy available within the space of a few years, that side has now aged, and a full rebuild is needed within the squad to make them competitive at the top again.
Jude Bellingham has been strongly linked, although it remains to be seen if he would be willing to join the club if they fail to qualify for the Champions League, but we think he would fit the profile of what Liverpool need: young, highly talented, energetic midfielders who can bring some attacking flair back to the side.
