Back Falkirk-1 on the Match Handicap-1.0 Market at 9/5

Most football fans will have seen on twitter a few weeks ago when sixth-tier Darvel knocked Scottish Premier League side Aberdeen out of the Scottish Cup. It was one of the biggest upsets in the history of the competition and the visitors that day were 1/14 to win the match. However a Jordan Kirkpatrick first half goal was enough for the big underdogs to progress to the fifth round.

On paper, Falkirk is a much easier opponent but the Bairns are in very good recent form and have only tasted defeat twice since the start of November. Once to top of the table Dunfermline and the other to Scottish Championship side Dundee. What is going to be of note is how tough it is to cause the second big upset on the spin as the next team will know all about what has gone on before.

If you just looked at the result from the Darvel vs Aberdeen game then you’d think it was a well-deserved win (and it was) but the stats alone don’t show the outrageously poor offside decision that went against the SPL side and the fact their goalkeeper that night had a game for the ages. Lots of things had to go right for the hosts to pull off the upset and expecting the same to happen on Monday night might be stretching it a bit.

There is also very little chance of Falkirk falling into the trap of heavy squad rotation. Expect John McGlynn to put out a very strong side and not to push his luck. Darvel’s season has been incredible so far but at some point the magic runs out and this feels like a burst your balloon type game and I think the visitors come away with a win by two or more.
